Resilience is critical to thriving as a leader.
We need that inner strength, knowing we can deal with life’s ups and downs, and believing that you won’t get derailed, that you will prevail. And everybody has different levels of resilience.
Although resilience is a personality trait, it’s a plastic personality trait. That means we can build our resilience. And it’s not about ‘toughing it out,’ or ‘grinning and bearing it,’ or enduring, but about building a set of resources and skills that serve us well in our personal and professional lives.
Women leaders often need to deal with a number of paradoxes, mixed messages and double binds in our careers. But feeling like a victim undermines our resilience-building as do other bad habits we need to learn to kick to thrive.
